The clips in this video were taken with various consumer type hand held camcorders. The clips have been trimmed and arranged, but the audio portion is as recorded on the handheld with no mixing or overdubs.
1. Soul Sacrifice- Santana. The Palookas play this one frequently. We love the ending and strive to make it "just like Woodstock" !
2. Light My Fire- The Doors. Doors (and guitar) aficionados will notice Jordan finger-picking the note for note guitar solo just like Robbie Krieger!!
3. Green Onions- Booker T & the MGs. We usually transition into this one from "Green Eyed Lady" as part of our 'Green' medley.
4. New Country- Jean Luc Ponty. A foot stompin version of the jazz classic by this legendary electric violinist
5. She's About a Mover- Sir Douglas Quintette. Another example of a classic tune unheard for 40 years!!
6. Jessica- Allman Brothers. We love melodic, harmonic instrumentals that you will not hear from other groups.
7. Purple Haze(Jimi Hendrix), Eruption(Van Halen), Freebird(Lynard Skynard). We put these tunes together to showcase the skills of our virtuoso guitarist, Jordan Zylak(he worked backstage at a 'Skynard concert and caught "Freebird envy" !!)
8. Fever- Bruce Springsteen. This is the Southside Johnny version that people love but don't get to hear anymore (except from the Palookas!!) Features Matt on harp and vocals.
9. Green Eyed Lady- Sugarloaf. Another one of those cool tunes you don't hear anymore.
10. Blue Rondo A la Turk- Dave Brubeck. Not to be confused with the Mozart tune with similar title, this is one of our favs and gives Jordan room on the alto sax.
11.Hoedown- Aaron Copeland. More like the orchestral version than ELP or Bela Fleck. Beef! It's whats for dinner!!! We use the fermata in the middle to insert:
12.Music for a Found Harmonium- Penguin Cafe Orchestra. This is the Patrick Street version heard in "Napoleon Dynamite".
13. Prelude from the film 'Psycho'- Bernard Herrmann. We love this tune and the way it makes us feel all warm inside!!
14.Road House Blues- The Doors. This one shows off Matts vocals and harp jammin. We like the subtle transition into:
15.Black Magic Woman- Santana. Complete with 'Gypsy Queen' jam on the end. At this performance, it was our final number and so transitioned into:
16.Jumpin' at the Woodside- Count Basie. Made famous by 'Gene Gene the Dancing Machine' on Chuck Barris' "Gong Show". The Palookas have fans that only request this song!
Out takes: 1. The Weight- The Band. We love any song that mentions a girl named 'Fanny' !! The Palookas welcome audience participation.
